As an “associated network”, the European Digital Art and Science Network shall support the project in terms of dissemination and outreach, as well as supply their case studies (a 2-year programme of art+sci residencies) as valuable data resource for the project’s needs analysis. The network aims to link up scientific aspects and ideas with approaches used in digital art. They shall contribute to the project especially along the entire Workpackage 3 by their expertise and potential in fostering interdisciplinary work and intercultural exchange as well as gaining access to new target audiences are among its declared goals. They also put a strong emphasis on art’s role as a catalyst in processes of social renewal, and thereby they are compatible with the MAST project’s SE-centered concept. By creating images and narratives dealing with the potential risks and rewards inherent in technological and scientific development, they believe that artists exert an important influence on how our society comes to terms with these innovations. Their members are highly relevant art+sci institutions Center for the promotion of science, RS – DIG Gallery, SK – Zaragoza City of Knowledge Foundation, ES – Kapelica Gallery / Kersnikova, SI – GV Art, UK – Laboral, ES – Science Gallery, IE. They act in cooperation with seven artistic & cultural institutions as well as ESA–European Space Agency, CERN, the ESO–European Southern Observatory and Fraunhofer MEVIS, Ars Electronica launched the European Digital Art and Science Network, an international initiative offering artists the chance to spend several weeks at the CERN, the ESO, the Fraunhofer MEVIS and the Ars Electronica Futurelab.
